One of the most modern of modern baby shower themes is that of the eco-friendly, green baby shower. Use
invitations and decorations made of recycled and recyclable materials. Potted plants provide eco-friendly
decorations and small plants can be given as party favors. Ask party guests to bring eco-friendly gifts such as
organic cloth diapers, organic baby clothes, and pacifiers made of materials containing no BPA or natural baskets
filled with green gifts.
Book Baby Shower
Another popular modern baby shower theme is the book-themed one. Decorate with streamers, placemats,
tablecloths, napkins and plates that have characters of classic children’s books on them, like
Winnie-the-Pooh. Bake a square cake and decorate it to look like a book. Ask guests to bring books suitable for
very small children or the mother and father-to-be. A great book for the future parents would be one that discusses

If the baby shower takes place near a holiday, make the holiday your baby shower theme. For example, if the
shower occurs in October, use Halloween as your theme. Ask your guests to dress up as cartoon characters. Decorate

For a truly modern baby shower theme, have a baby shower for the father-to-be and his friends. If the baby is a
boy, consider a sports-themed shower. Decorate using sports equipment. Have a cake made in the shape of a football.
If the baby is girl a “daddy’s little princess” theme works well. Bake a cake with “Daddy’s Little Princess”
written on it. Decorate using stars with glitter. In either case, time the party, if you can, to coincide with a
sports event on television to keep the men entertained. Simplify gift shopping for the guys by requesting toys for
infants or diapers as gifts.
Drop-in Baby Shower
Due to hectic and varied schedules of guests, a popular modern baby shower theme is the drop-in baby
shower. Guests are invited to come at any time during a set few hours. Decorations take a back seat at this
type of shower, and the emphasis is on the friends and family getting to see the mom-to-be before the baby’s birth
— plus giving her some great presents! Food takes the spotlight so provide a wider array of food choices for
guests. Substantial hors d’oeuvres and canapés, along with a few desserts, will suffice.
